Keep Tuscaloosa in your prayers

Please keep Tuscaloosa, Alabama in your prayers. A horrible tornado ripped through and took away so much. 15 fatalities were recorded today but there may be more. I used to live there and, thankfully, no one I knew was hurt. A tae kwon do studio that I went to occasionally to was destroyed along with a Big Lots, a BBQ, a pawn shop, and a CVS. Again, keep Tuscaloosa in your prayers.

~WriterChick

EDIT: The Tae Kwon Do studio is damaged not destroyed! YAY!

Wow! Almost a month! YEEP!

So I'm behind on my poems...
Terribly sorry about that...
here have this brand new one that I JUST finished.

A dream for most
A campaign for a chosen few
Ignored by others
What do I write of?
Equality, a few tiles on a scrabble board...
For men and women to be equal.
Is it possible??
One day, perhaps..
but then maybe not..
For now
Equality
is but
a dream for most.

I've gone emerald

Yes, the blog has changed colors. Again. This time it has meaning, wait so did the other times...oh well. My Grandpa has liver cancer and the awareness ribbon color is emerald green. And so I changed the blog color to spread awareness.

I wear emerald for my Grandpa.

Something I didn't write

WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO.
Cancer is so limited...
it cannot cripple love
it cannot shatter hope
it cannot corrode faith
it cannot destroy peace
it cannot kill friendship
it cannot suppress memories
it cannot silence courage
it cannot invade the soul
it cannot steal eternal life
it cannot conquer the spirit.

Poem of the Week

Once upon the day
There once was a maid
Who lived by the bay
Who wore her hair in a braid.

random little rhyme I wrote while reading Tam Lin.

Poem of the Week

*searches through rubble of what used to be a bedroom
(no disaster actually occurred, unless you count spring cleaning)

Red
It's roses
It's bouncing balls
It's hiding on a purse
It's a little notebook
It's round
It's flat
It's a dot on the page .
It moves like a flag
But it's only a color

Pi Day. Celebrate it!

Okay so National Pi Day is coming! On March 14th, which is a Monday this year, a very slim number of math geeks will celebrate the number 3.14159265.....also known as pi. All you have to do to celebrate pi day is eat a piece of pie. Doesn't matter what kind of pie, it just has to be pie. Easy peasy. Eat a piece of pie. How hard is that?

Poem of the Week

This is actually a song I wrote. Allow me to give back story to this song. I was trying to write a funeral song but what I wrote went from almost happy to downright morbid. All the while I was listening to 'Savages-part two' from Disney's Pocahontas on youtube. I stopped thinking about what to write and listened to the song. This was the result.

How Loud Are The Drums Of War.

How loud are the drums of war?
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
How loud are the drums of war?

How loud are the calls of men?
Through sorrow and joy
Through faith and love
How loud are the calls of men?

How loud are my cries?
In this day of sorrow
What will the morrow bring?
How loud are the drums of war?

If I could record myself singing this I would.

Ladies who can kick/kicked rear end

A lot of laughs

So I recently bought Brisingr and I flipped through it to find my favorite parts and the more I read the more I found that I don't really like Eragon in Brisingr. But Roran, Katerina, and Nausada in the same scene, they're hilarious! Scene paraphrased:
Nausada: I need you to go do this.
Katerina: Are you crazy?! He just got back from almost being killed and he was just half slaughtered!
Roran: *to Katerina* Darling. *to Nausada* I'll do it.
Katerina: Are you crazy?!?!

Makes me laugh.

Cute Cousins

Over the weekend I went camping with my cousins and while I was playing Scrabble with Zach Jesse said
"Your phone is a peacock."
That is one my new inside jokes. Another one is also wrapped around Scrabble.
I was playing Scrabble with my saint of an aunt Aunt Kim and all through out the game we going like
*puts down a 12 point word "beat that"
And then Aunt Kim put down "Quality" which was worth 24 points. I added an E to the beginning but I only got 20 points. And through out the night we joked as we laid down "cat" and "log" "beat that and then equality comes along." We laughed and none of my cousins got it.
And earlier in the day Zach and I flopped around on the floor like a couple of fish. Zach was honking the horn on the RV and Uncle Chris had gotten ticked when Jesse accidentally honked the horn so I wrestled him down to the floor and we flopped around on the floor. We had way too much fun.

Valentine's Day stuff just a few days late.

So a few days ago was Valentine's Day. I made each of my grandparents a cute little something.

I made a blue five petaled flower for my grandmother.

I made a red heart with a big bow for my grandfather.
I was lucky my grandparents had the metal words that kind of went with what I made. The flower and Peace don't really go together but I only took one picture of the flower. Oops.

Poem of the Week

Muffin for your thoughts?
If you only had a muffin.
Yes, if only.
Penny for your thoughts?
If you only had a penny.
Yes, if only.
Cookie for your thoughts?
If you only had a cookie.
Yes, if only.
Dime for your thoughts?
If you only had a dime.
Yes, if only.
Pie for your thoughts?
If you only had a pie.
Yes, if only.
Quarter for your thoughts?
Do you have a quarter?
Actually, yes I do.

Poem of the Week for last week

Part One
What do a raven and a writing desk have in common?
I have one of each.
Who am I? You ask
I am a rose alone
I am a raven on the coast
Forgotten and abandoned.

Part Two
So here I stand violin in hand
Hear my music; hear my pain, my sorrow

Part Three
Here I stand roses in hand
A white dress, a golden crown
A princess I was
I queen I am.
Update 3/8: I just realized I've already published this poem!

New Poem:

Grumblebunny
Oh, Grumblebunny
Tell me your story.
Is there a sack?
Is there a Wolf?
Grumblebunny
Oh, Grumblebunny
Tell me your story.
Are there Beavers?
Are there tall, tall trees?
Grumblebunny
Oh, Grumblebunny
Tell me your story.

Flying Tips from WriterChick

I'm a frequent flyer (but I don't have one of those fancy memberships) and a couple weeks ago I looked up packing tips for my trip to California (where I'm posting from for the next 2 weeks) and some of them were helpful and others were not. I now grace you with my packing tips. If you look up flying tips on google you will find things like:

"Pack only items that match" meaning pack black and white

"Wear your bulkiest items while traveling" DON'T EVER DO THIS! I know that in the US right now they have you taking your shoes, jacket, and hats. Then you'll have to put them all back on. It's easier just to wear jeans, t-shirt and flip flops.

"Vacuum seal your clothes" Okay, let's be honest. How many people have a vacuum sealer gizmo just lying around waiting for you to travel? None that I know.

"Always take toilet paper" To me this says to your host "I don't trust that you'll have tp". So don't.

"Always take a water filter" Um. No.

Please for the sake of the person behind you and the TSA representative:
PLEASE don't wear lots of chains
PLEASE buy your little bottle of water on the other side of security.

~*~*~*~
Now for some things you should do.

Wear light clothing. I know in the US you practically undress so wearing heavy clothes is a bad idea.

Wear flip flops or shoes you can slip on and off easily.

Put on your jacket after security.

If you're traveling with kids, keep plenty of snacks, things to do, and have PLENTY of patience

If you're traveling with kids, let them wear pjs.

If you're not traveling with kids, have PLENTY of patience for those traveling with kids. Most of the time parents have like three brain cells left and those kids are jumping on those three.

Please be kind to everyone no matter who they are.

THE SEARCH IS OVER!!!!!

So a very long time ago and friend of mine, Erim, and I had a conversation about hats and how she couldn't wear hats because of "the poof". I took it upon myself to find a hat she could where and make it. I recently stumbled upon said hat. A mini top hat. A very small version of that hat----------->
Yep, a mini mad hatter's hat. I won't bog this post down with the pattern and in all honesty the finally product will not be green or black but test yarn claret.

Swords
Like a piece of metal
Like a dragon’s talon
Like a twisted fate
Like a sharp edge
Like a ceremony
Like a Chinese fan
Like a sign of wealth, stupid idiots
Like a kitchen item often overlooked
Like an inheritance
Like a shadow in the dark
Like an item on a vanity table often not seen
Like a drawing

Hello readers, if there is anyone reading this blog.

So my last post was depressing and if anyone remembers how it was before my blog was Gryffondor red. I changed it to fit my mood. Which is depressed if you couldn't tell. But I will come out of the depression to say this I will post a poem that I either LOVE or have written each week. It will probably be the latter since I don't read poetry very often. So just wait it'll come.

Great Sadness has swept over

My grandfather has cancer and is currently going through cemo. I'm flying out to his house is February. Remember that poem "Falling Apart" well it's about him. So keep him, my grandmother and my family in your prayers. A few weeks ago when I talked with him last he had lost his hair and now needs hats because his head is cold. I plan on taking him a blanket and two hats when I go out there. Wish me luck! I've only finished one of the hats. But I'm about 1/4th of the way done with the blanket and I just started the second hat. So again wish me luck!

    Falling Apart

Don't ask me if everything’s alright
    'Cause it's not.
    A dream is shattered
    Because one man is dying.
Don't ask me if I'm okay
    'Cause I'm falling apart
    Because one man is dying.
I look around at all my worldly possessions
And I'd give it all away
    Just to have more time
With the one man who is dying.
    The only thing I'd keep
    Would be a blue book
Because he gave it to me.
I may be smiling but it's
    Only temporary.
    I may appear happy
    But it's just a mask
    To hide the fact
    That I'm
    Falling apart.

Let it be known that on December 5, 2010 this poem captured how I was feeling. It is my own poem and I still feel this way.

    Crochet scarf pattern

Because I have linked my blog to Ravelry I thought I should post a pattern to please them.

Here is my crocheted scarf pattern
    It's in US terms.
    I'm using:
Yarn: Lion Brand Hometown USA in Charlotte Blue
    Hook: Size N

    Chain 203
Row 1: trbl(treble) in third chain from hook. trbl across, chain 2. turn.
Row 2: trbl across, chain 2, turn.
    Row 3-8: repeat row 2
Cast off and weave in tails.

    How I broke my toe.

Tuesday night I was walking down the stairs and the way I stepped onto the stair it caught mt foot in the arch causing me to slide down the stairs. My toe crumpled underneath me and made a sound as if someone accordion  folded the bone in my foot. And it sure did feel like that too. Mama, Aunt Paula and I then rushed to the ER and spent the night there. We checked out around 6:45 AM Wednesday morning. I still went to Driver's Ed a few hours later and slept through most of the class.

    New year, New projects

So I'm still working on Three Kings Day presents for several people.
For my friend I'm thinking of making these:
    http://osuraccoon.blogspot.com/2010/11/penguin-coasters-crochet-pattern.html
She loves penguins so I thought they might be perfect.
For my Grandpa I'm in the process of making a really huge granny square
For my Grandma I'm plan on making a shawl. I'm part way through one but it's not right. I'm messing up the pattern, using the wrong yarn, it's supposed to be fuzzy and it's stiff like cardboard. So I have to find a new pattern.

    But for this coming Christmas/Hanukkah I'm making/finishing:
A Doctor Who scarf for Gena.
I may end up making hat to go with the scarves I made Amanda, Brandy, Eeyi, Samira, Catrelle, Mama, and Aunt Paula.
I plan on using that pattern to make scarves for Bethany, Sarah, Eesim, and Erim.
I think I might make Chandra a hook holder.
That still leaves Dorene, Shanta, Sheon, Michelle, Miss Archie, and Aunt Cindy.
I really don't know what to make them.

    New year, New projects

.....sorry I need breakfast so I'll be back soon. most likely later today or tomorrow.
